IPL Permanent Hair Reduction

How does Skinbase™ IPL Hair removal work?

The Skinbase™ IPL Hair Removal targets actively growing hair (anagen). Intense pulsed light penetrates your skin and is absorbed by the melanin (pigmentation) in the hair.
The Anagen Phase is the growth phase. During Anagen, the hair contains an abundance of melanin – the pigment that gives hair colour. Hair removal in this phase is most effective.

Catagen Phase is the regression phase when the lower part of the hair stops growing. It is difficult to treat hair in this phase.

Telogen is the rest phase. Hair falls out in preparation for the new hair. Treatment in this phase will have no effect.

Is IPL Hair Removal Permanent?

There is no such thing as completely hair removal. With all IPL and Laser systems you will achieve 95% hair reduction. Results will vary for each person. A customized treatment program is designed for each patient.

What areas can be treated?

All areas of the face and body can be treated. Sensitive areas such as bikinis and Brazilians, chest and back hair removal are now quick and relatively pain free.

How is the treatment performed?

The area to be treated is shaved clean. The hand piece is passed over the area. Permanent hair follicle destruction is only possible if enough heat (thermal) energy can be delivered to the hair bulb and for long enough (wide pulse width of the light flash). It also requires enough melanin concentrated in the hair bulb to allow it to absorb this heat energy.
This is the reason the area is pre-shaved – so that the heat is delivered only to the hair bulb and does not burn the skin.

Does it hurt?

Less than waxing. The effective integrated skin cooler ensures no pain and little discomfort – a great advantage when treating the more sensitive areas.

Is there any downtime?

No downtime with this treatment.

When do I see results?

You will see results with your first treatment. The 30% of hair in the growth stage that is treated at your first appointment will be destroyed, in the main, and not grow back at all.

How many treatments do I need?

4 – 6 treatments are likely, but during the consultation the skin and hair type will determine the final treatment plan.

How long does the treatment take?

The Optima IPL provides a very fast and comfortable result. The treatment area will determine how long a treatment will take.

How long do the results last?

This treatment works because the intense light which is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles is converted into heat. This heat loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for new hair growth. This affects the 30% of hair in the anagen or growing stage. Most of the hair destroyed will never grow back at all. If hair grows back it will be lighter and thinner.

Is it safe?

Very safe – the Optima IPL equipment in the hands of an experienced operator is very safe and the outcomes are very good. Hair depilation using Intense Pulsed Light is one of the safest techniques available.

Who can have this treatment?

All skin types and hair colours – with the exception of white and grey hair – can be treated, but the “lighter the skin colour” and the “darker the hair colour” (with more melanin), the more permanent hair follicle destruction is possible.

What is the Pre Treatment Care?

Shave or use a cream depilatory (do not wax) the area to be treated.

What is the Post Treatment Care?

Immediately after the treatment cold surface cooling can be used. Sensible use of sun protection products is all that is needed as direct exposure to sunlight should be avoided for up to four weeks before and after treatment. Treated hair should be left in place for at least four days, after which they can be removed or allowed to fall out naturally.

Avoid cheap imitations!

A photo-waxing result can be obtained with any machine by heat simply burning the hair in the hair shaft. This is temporary, as the hair grows back if the hair follicle, situated in the base of the deeply lying hair bulb, is not fully destroyed. It is also important to note that multiple treatments with equipment that is not effective, (pulses which do not generate enough heat or maintain heat for long enough) will damage the hair sufficiently to remove the pigment but not stop the growth. The result will be thick hair, lighter in colour which will then be very difficult to treat. In these circumstances, less advanced equipment at lower prices is not always a bargain, as the hair will not be removed and treatment will have to begin again.

Sterex Blend Electrolysis

Electrolysis - the only permanent hair removal method

Do you need electrolysis?

Unwanted hair causes enormous distress, as anyone who has suffered with it will understand, and often brings with it a sense of isolation, low self worth and poor-self esteem. Unwanted hair can be genetic or inherited or one of the symptoms for disorders such as polycystic ovary system. There are also many medications and drugs that cause or stimulate unwanted hair growth as well as hormonal changes within the body such as during puberty, pregnancy and menopause. It is often in the case that electrolysists are privileged to witness a dramatic transformation in their clients, from a self conscious, deeply demoralised individual at the beginning of a course of treatments, to confident and happy individual once treatment is under way and making progress. Many women and indeed many men have benefited from this tried and trusted treatment.

How long does a typical treatment last?

In electrolysis there is really no ‘typical’ treatment as all clients are individuals and a treatment plan is created to suit the individual’s needs and requirements. Treatments can take anything from 10 minutes once a month to up to 2 hours once a week. Electrolysis treatment will initially take longer and be frequent eventually tailing off to shorter less frequent treatments as the hair becomes less dense, finer, lighter and less noticeable. Treatment can be performed in one area or in many different areas in any given treatment session. With the transgender community appointments can be in excess of 4 hours in any one session and are usually initially concentrated on facial hair growth.

How much does an electrolysis treatment cost?

Nationwide the cost of hair removal electrolysis varies depending on location, experience and client base. At Pure Indulgence the cost to the client of a hair removal electrolysis treatment is usually £1.00 per minute of treatment after a £10 initial consultation charge. ‘Offers’ are occasionally given for courses booked and paid for up front and for longer appointment times. The equipment and needles that each electrolysist uses may also play a part in the cost of the treatment as 24 carat gold needles are more expensive than stainless steel.

What happens after an electrolysis treatment?

An aftercare product will be applied to the treated area to cool and protect. You will be asked to buy a product to continue to use at home and you will be given advice on how to care for your skin e.g. no scratching or picking the area and no sunbathing or other heat treatments following a procedure. The most usual products offered are by electrolysis brand leader Sterex electrolysis that has a range of aftercare products specially formulated for their antiseptic and soothing properties which can be applied after electrolysis as well as waxing, IPL, or laser treatments or sunbeds/sunbathing including:

Aloe Vera Gel
A cool soothing gel with a refreshing lemon grass fragrance contains 95% liquid extract of Aloe Vera.

Is a course of treatment recommended for optimum results?

Definitely, as each hair requires more than one treatment because each individual hair has its own growing cycle and blood supply. Electrolysis works by weakening the hair and eventually destroying it. Courses of treatment are therefore imperative and results take a little time. A fine probe (resembling the size of an eyelash) is inserted into the hair follicle where a tiny burst of energy is targeted at the root of the hair. This prevents nutrients feeding the hair and the hair becomes weaker and finer. After a course of treatments the hair is no longer able to grow and complete hair free results are obtained.
